The Councils’ Environmental Protection team is supportive of the document, which will provide a valuable resource in securing sustainable development in the sector. We would, however, strongly recommend the inclusion of guidance on the management and prevention of flies at such sites, which is notably absent from the draft. We have for the last 3 years received significant and increasing numbers of complaints from the public about flies in areas near to several livestock and poultry farms, particularly in the north-eastern part of the Mid Suffolk district. Although the management and disposal of waste is covered in the draft text, additional and specific guidance on fly management/controls would be beneficial. We would be happy to assist you in the drafting of such guidance if required.
