Henley Parish Council welcomes its classification as a Hinterland Village with the associated criteria for development within the settlement boundary defined in SP03 of the draft Local Plan.

However the Parish Council does not agree with the inclusion in the settlement boundary of the section of agricultural land south of Ashbocking Road and opposite Pearsons Place/Pond End.

However the Parish Council does not agree with the inclusion in the settlement boundary of the section of agricultural land south of Ashbocking Road and opposite Pearsons Place/Pond End. As Mid Suffolk is aware, in 2017/18 the Parish Council conducted a formal housing needs survey for Henley in response to local demand for a mix of new housing for the village, and identified a need for around 30 hew homes, half of them affordable and including a proportion of bungalows. Discussions have progressed alongside Mid Suffolk, Community Action Suffolk and Hastoe Housing for a community-led development, seeking a suitable site for this development within the settlement boundary prior to the current draft.

Local sentiment is strongly opposed to use of the agricultural land south of Ashbocking Road, as there is more than one alternative location for housing development which would not encroach on active farmland, but would enhance areas of the village in need of improvement. A revised settlement boundary map is included with these comments.

Site to the west of the village included in the settlement boundary is sustainably located within easy reach of services and facilities via public footpath links. Would help support the vitality of Henley, which is identified as a Hinterland Village. Site proposed provides a flexible approach for the Council to allocate new housing development together with land for new and improved community facilities. Our clients are keen to see the site developed, is available now and could be developed in the short term with the homes built in a year if required.
