Site lies behind the single row of properties forming the northern edge of the settlement, several of which are Grade II* listed. These include Street Farmhouse, the Chapel of St Botolph, and the Priory with attached outbuildings and garden walls. The open nature of the land to the rear of these properties is important not only to the individual buildings but to the wider setting and character of the conservation area. The policy should be amended to include new criterion which makes reference to the any listed buildings which may be protected (listing them) as well as the conservation area , and making it a requirement that development should be designed to conserve and where appropriate enhance these listed buildings, the conservation area and their settings. In addition a number of archaeological finds have been located within the vicinity of Botesdale; these varied finds were distributed in clusters in the village itself and in its environs. Whilst none of the finds resulted in any scheduling their presence suggest further archaeological potential which should accommodated in the policy.

In the first instance our clients are supportive of the inclusion of part of our clients site within the Plan. This element is an existing commitment with outline planning permission (application ref. 17/02760). Given the need to identify additional dwellings in order to meet the overall housing requirement (as set out in our housing representation), we consider that it is highly appropriate to consider extending existing allocations in such sustainable locations and have prepared two options outlining the contribution that our clients wider land holding can make to meeting the overall objectives of the Plan.
