I think that this historic village has been treated correctly within the plan.

I support the plan with Pin Mill being considered a hamlet as it is set apart from Chelmondiston village and is a very popular tourist spot with the AONB conservation area, the National Trust are and the Butt & Oyster - all places to be protected to maintain the heritage of the area.

Pin Mill is already a Hamlet and conservation area. any changes to this designation could have a serious effect on the environment of the area.

Some recent planning permissions within this community have caused a significant amount of discord. I am very content with the proposed wording of this section.

I support this plan. The area of houseboats along the shore from the Butt and Oyster add character to this hamlet and should have your encouragement. Your council agreed to a certain number of houseboats in the late 1980s and therefore your council should have control. There appears to be too many regulatory bodies trying to impose restrictions.

I support the designation of Pin Mill as a Hamlet and note that, while a living and working place, together with its houseboats it lies in the AONB and is a Conservation Area. It is both sensitive and fragile and it is the ensemble that provides its unique character so that any future planning consents need to be much more sensitively considered than the recent building of a modern box design that intrudes on the skyline and looms over parts of the hamlet and is conspicuous from the river.

Pin Mill is already classed as a hamlet and should be protected. It is clearly an area of outstanding natural beauty enjoyed and treasured by the local population. Pin Mill is also a very popular area for tourists with the river Orwell, the Butt @ Oyster, river and woodland walks and a string of houseboats adding interest to the area.

We support the development plan for the next 17 years for Chelmondiston, Lings Lane and Pinmill. Despite having to have seven houses so close to our property taking all our day light. We believe Babergh's document protects our areas of Outstanding Beauty, and helps to protect our village from over development.

Chelmondiston consider the houseboats to be within the Hamlet village of Pin Mill, within the parish of Chelmondiston, and their existence adds a different type of housing to the community, while the residents of these contribute effectively to the life of the community. In the Policy Background and Explanation we would like to see a more positive statement to the effect that the general character of the houseboat area must be maintained since this adds to the vibrancy of the community but they should respect the unique habitat within which they are situated. We agree with the Policy statement except item 5 seems unnecessarily restrictive by stating “No introduction”: we would like to see this changed to allow for some small-scale introduction.

As a working waterfront village this is unique in the AONB and Chelmondiston Parish Council strongly support its separate designation as a Hamlet village.
